MarsOnEarth
Die Marsnahme
Venue: Floating University Berlin, Lilienthalstraße 32, 10965 Berlin (Outdoor)
While Elon Musk is striving to reach Mars and create a colony for a million billionaires by 2050, the theater collective andcompany&Co. is confronting the Martian landscape that we humans have long since created ourselves through climate change: Welcome to “MarsOnEarth”! This sci-fi happening – a combination of science, activism, and art – takes place in a real-life dystopian Earth-habitat. Following in the footsteps of the sci-fi novel “The Red Star” (1907) by Soviet author Alexander Bogdanov and the Mars trilogy by Kim Stanley Robinson, andcompany&Co. encounter a utopian, high-tech Mars society that, after having exhausted its own planet’s resources, is planning to colonize Earth. It seems as if the past is writing the future here. But what does the present make of it?
Together with activist citizens, scientists, performers and one dog, the collective searches for planetary visions of an earthly future and forms a choir of Earth-Martians, lead by Christine Groß. On stage, the threatened Earth-habitat is staged as a post-apocalyptic scenario with objects and costumes by visual artist Raul Walch and sustainably produced from upcycled materials. To the sounds of retro-futuristic synthesizers, collective Martian training sessions are carried out, degrowth communism is negotiated and the planet cult is tested as a new practice of earthly coexistence: “Planetarians of all countries, unite!”
